Mindful Trader Commentary For October 27, 2021

Hey Guys,

There was a lot of trade activity right at the opening bell this morning. In my main account, I bought stock for HES and NTR. In my low-priced account, I bought stock for BEKE and CHX. I also picked up options for VMW in my extra options account.

HES was pretty wild and crazy in the first minute because it had just released earnings before the market opened. We're right smack in the middle of earnings season right now, and there are likely to be some tickers that are like bucking broncos.

Speaking of earnings, ALNY and CHX are both companies who are reporting earnings after the close today and before the opening bell tomorrow. They might see a dose of price volatility shortly, which could include "gapping". It could be good or bad for our bottom line. If you don't like the sound of that, you can consider closing the position during regular trading hours today.

If you don't necessarily want to take on those earnings trades, you can always keep an eye on the watch list for other trading opportunities. There are other tickers that triggered today, but I didn't have enough room in my account to take on all the trades that set up. I typically take the first two stock trades that set up in a given day, and then pass on any others that come along.

GD hit its profit target yesterday. That was fast! It's pretty rare for a stock to hit its profit target the same day that I enter the trade.

My PANW double down option also hit its profit target this morning. And from the low-priced account, I closed CPE since it reached its time limit. That was the first trade from the new account and it locked in a profit.

Tomorrow I have some options positions reaching their time limits. I typically close those at the end of the trading day on their "closing by" date, but tomorrow I won't be at my desk at that time so I'll be closing mine near the middle of the trading day tomorrow.

If you have any questions or feedback, I'd love to hear from you.
