Mindful Trader Commentary For March 11, 2022

Hey Guys,

The market had some interesting overnight activity that involved a noticeable upward thrust in price, but since then the price has come back down to around where it ended yesterday.

During the overnight price swing, my futures position hit its profit target. Futures markets are open through the night, so standard orders get filled at all times of the day. Stock trades, on the other hand, only have standard orders filled during normal US stock market hours, and as a result the SPXL trade that corresponds with that futures trade has not yet reached its profit target.

I picked up a few new positions today. In the low-priced account I bought stock positions for EQNR and DQ.

In the main account I bought another futures position (and its corresponding stock equivalent using the ticker SPXL). That was for strategy MT 1 for those interested, which is a pillar of the back-tested trading plan but which has failed me twice in the past couple months. I bought the March expiration (H22) since I always buy the nearest expiration unless it's within a day or two of expiring. Next week at some point, I'll be rolling over any open futures contracts to the next expiration. I'll send an email when I am about to do it and will explain the steps for doing it.

I have a SPY option trade that reached its time limit today. I'll be manually closing the position near the end of the trading session today.

If you have any questions or feedback, I'd love to hear from you.
