Mindful Trader Commentary For June 25, 2021

Good morning!

It's a very quiet morning in the market so far. There was a 4-day stretch of major volatility that started just last week, and then things abruptly went quiet starting in the middle of this week.

I sold my PLD position this morning for just below breakeven. I ended up buying another real estate stock shortly thereafter, SBAC.

On the options side, that WMB option is all but worthless right now. I have a market sell order set up for it, meaning that if there is literally even a single buyer willing to pay any price whatsoever, I'll sell it to them. And my order is still not getting filled. This is not abnormal; there will be plenty more times where I buy options that end up expiring worthless. The premium I pay for the option up front is my risk on the position, so a worthless option is kind of like hitting my stoploss with a stock position.

There haven't been a lot of options trades lately. As always, I'll stay patient and wait for them to set up. My goal is to mirror the trade strategies used in the back test.

I took an MES futures trade yesterday. The strategy for that one is inspired by the old "Turtle Rules". It's a breakout trade. It's the only breakout trade I have in my playbook. The profit target is modest and sometimes it can generate easy victories.
